We started the day by cooking a full breakfast before I walked back into town leaving Sarah back at the cabin to sort some admin.

Today was the day we needed to look up when we’re heading back home and check the logistics.
Sarah spent a long time on the phone to British Airways and managed to push our flights back.
We have allowed 18 days hiking time before we finish. This is based on approx. 20 mile / day average and then 6 town days before we finish. Totaling 24 days.
It was important for us to put a stake in the ground regarding our flights to avoid hefty charges. Ideally we would have preferred to wait on making a decision until we reach Big Bear Lake but after speaking to BA and peeps at home we needed to make the decision sooner than later.

Our flight’s back to the UK have been pushed back to the 11th of December with us arriving back in the UK on the 12th.
Let’s hope any injuries and ailments we’ve had don’t slow us down. Hopefully our planning also means that we should finish the trail in plenty of time.

While Sarah sorted this I went into town to resupply armed with an empty rucksack and fresh legs.

On my way out I bumped into an old face, a guy called Cameron who we started with on day one, but have not seen since.
He said he’s been following us in the trial registers and been looking at the blog.
We spent a pleasant afternoon back at the cabin getting ship shape and ready for the trail. I also treated all our clothes with permethrin in case of any ticks in the next section.

I also checked in with Fred and Colin about downstream trail logistics and it looks like the next section is not going to be easy.
Tomorrow rain is predicted and this lasts throughout the week threatening snow conditions.
We focused most of our attention on Vincent Gap to Big Bear which is the next section we’re going to be walking through. It looks like temperatures could drop down to -5 overnight with a wind chill factor of zero throughout the day.
We made sure all of our packs were water tight with all gear double bagged in either dry bags or plastic bags.
In town I picked up some fresh trail runners that we had ordered from REI and got sent to the post office.
We may decide to keep these fresh and wrap them up in plastic bags until the bad weather subsides.

For dinner we cooked up a chicken and broccoli and pesto pasta dish. With a soup to start and cheesecake and ice cream for dessert It was delicious.
It felt great preparing food in a cozy warm cabin and it’s going to be hard tomorrow prizing ourselves out here.

We finished off the day by watching some more films glued to the TV almost mesmerised.
